Your skin is the most important thing to prep before putting makeup on. While I wear light makeup on a daily basis and have been blessed with fairly decent skin, I still take some simple steps to keep it clean and fresh. I don’t have particularly sensitive skin, but I tend to use products for sensitive skin because I like that they’re not as ‘harsh’ as those on the market for regular or combination type skin.
I’m not into using a million different products, trying out all the skin care fads or spending a significant amount of time on washing, toning, scrubbing, moisturizing etc etc. I keep it simple and use three products in my skin care routine.
I use a scrub 2-3 times a week to take off all the dead skin and give my face an extra cleaning. I used to use the St. Ives Apricot Scrubbut on a recent trip to Target, they were out. They did have their Up & Up brand Apricot Scrub that was identical to the St. Ives brand scrub, so I grabbed it. After I got home and used it, I realized I like it more than the St. Ives one! It smells great and has more scrubbing beads to really wash off all the impurities and makeup. Be careful when using this though, do not press it in too hard, it will irritate your skin. Just lather and massage gently, it will do the rest. This also has Salicylic acid mixed in which is the active ingredient in most acne face washes.
On the days I do not use the scrub, I use a very simple face wash. I have been loving the Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin. It doesn’t have any acne medicine in it and is great for washing your face on an daily basis. I like the sensitive skin formula because it doesn’t irritate my skin or dry it out after I’ve washed it.
After I use either my scrub or face wash, I finish it off with a light moisturizer. I’m not old enough to need a super heavy duty, thick product on my face all day and night so, I stick with Olay’s Age Defying Sensitive Skin Day Lotion. It is great to add some moisture back into your skin without making it feel like an oil wasteland. Creams and lotions like that weigh my face down and make me look like a walking oil ball; no thank you.
What are your favorite face products? Have you tried any of the ones I mentioned?
Longchamp Sale via Nordstrom: Great discounts on the Longchamp brand bags. These are very versatile and easy to wipe clean because of the nylon material. Just avoid the white ones, they will get dirty no matter what.
I hope you all have caught on by now and if you haven’t, let me just tell you; I love color. I’m not afraid of it and I just feel happier when I’m in bright vibrant pieces of clothing. Nudes and basics are great but I find colors just do it better for me. When I first got this midi skirt, I struggled to style it until I remembered this top. I thought going with a black top was too basic and predictable. I love that my top has a bright pink color and hints of green that tie it all together with the skirt. The skirt is only paneled in the black material in the front, the back is a cotton fabric that is super comfy, this is great if you’re planning on wearing it out and want to be comfortable as well.
I love potatoes. Fried, baked, mashed, roasted, basically anything but raw. My favorite thing to do lately has been buying small potatoes, boiling them and then pan searing them. This recipe is super simple and is a great side for many dishes.
Baby potatoes (I usually get a mix of red and white)
Dried Tarragon (to taste)
Dried Basil (to taste)
Butter (1-2 tbsp)
Minced Fresh Garlic or Garlic Salt (to taste)
Boil then drain the baby potatoes for about 10 minutes or until fully cooked. You can test this by poking it with a fork until it gets to the center of the potato.
Put 1-2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet with the minced garlic and stir it around for a minute. Then add the potatoes, tarragon and basil and toss. Leave on heat for about 3 minutes or until the skins start to sear.
Because the potatoes are still warm from the boiling water, this should not take long at all. You can boil the potatoes ahead of time and put them in the skillet right before you are ready to serve to keep it fresh and warm. Nothing is worse than a cold potato dish.
I went to Puerto Rico in October of 2010 and instantly fell in love with the island. It is so beautiful and historic but has all the modern day conviniences I cannot live without. We spent most of our time in Old San Juan and explored the island on foot as well as rented a car for a couple of days to visit El Yunque National Forest and the other side of the island.
Places I recommend:
La Bombonera: Old San Juan- the best freaking pastries ever. We used to walk over for breakfast and pick up pastries with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or lemonade.
Al Dente: San Juan-my favorite was our appetizer Arancini di Spinaci which is basically deep fried spinach balls served with a light sauce; I can still taste them now nomnomnomnom
ISTANBUL: San Juan- It’s funny that we had some of the best Turkish food while in Puerto Rico. The food took forever to come out, but it was amazing. Everything was impeccably cooked and spiced. Try the Imam Bayildi (Eggplant/Berenjena) and Adana Kebab
Old San Juan: Historic district, cute shops, short walk to El Morro Fort.
El Yunque Rain Forest: You can go with a group or rent a car and go on your own schedule like we did.
Forts: Castillo de San Cristóbal (Fort) & Castillo San Felipe del Morro (Fort)- both forts are located on different sides of the island with different views. My favorite was El Morro.
Note: If you have time to go visit the island of Vieques, do it! We were crunched for time so we did not get a chance to explore.
I love simple sweaters with embellishments, it makes is easier for me to throw it on without having to work on the accessories. I paired this sweater with simple skinnies and basic shoes to keep the focus on the top. I have been eyeing mules ever since seeing them at the runway shows and when I walked into Target and spotted them on clearance for $10, I was ecstatic! Besides the unbelievable price, I love that they’re super comfy and include a snap back detail that makes them easy to put on and take off. They are still their original price online, however, I recommend stopping by your local Target; I’ve scored many shoes on sale at my store months before they are reduced online.
