Foodie: 4th of July

4th of July

4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, it’s a great time for my family and I to get together, do what we do best–eat and play with some fireworks. While your whole theme doesn’t have to be red, white and blue related, it’s nice to include a few simple things in your fest. I keep it simple with fruit kabobs and passion iced tea lemonade. Both are easy to make and can be done ahead of time, which makes the day of much less stressful.

4th of July 4th of July

Fruit Kabobs: Arrange the ingredients below on skewers in a red, white and blue order

Plastic or wooden skewers  | Strawberries (you can also sub raspberries or any other red fruit)| Blueberries |Bananas (some like to sub marshmallows because bananas ‘go bad’ quickly and change color) | White Chocolate | Blue Sprinkles (or blue Jell-O)

For the pumped up version, melt some white chocolate and drizzle it onto the strawberries, immediately sprinkle some blue sprinkles on top. I didn’t have any blue sprinkles on hand but did have blue jell-o, so I just sprinkled some of the powder on top.

Passion Iced Tea Lemonade: Make the Tazo Iced Passion according to instructions except substitute the last two cups of water with lemonade (recipe also on the side of the box). I dipped the rim of my glasses in plain sugar and garnished it with a strawberry and blueberry, which is all of course, optional.

I hope you all have a great 4th of July!
